[News] The WiiU Is Going To Be The Home For Indie Game Developers

It seems Nintendo is focusing on Indie developers, mostly using the Unity Development Kit.
The standup company Nintendo announced at last year’s GDC (Game Developer’s Conference) that they would be supporting indie games on the WiiU. At this year’s GDC, they really did show that, as their booth was focused around showing off how easy it is for indie gamers/indie game developers to get their games onto the WiiU marketplace. They were also showing how they’re basing the WiiU around the Unity Development Kit.
When Damon Baker, the Sr. Manager of licensing marketing, was asked about why they haven’t been showing off indie content, he basically mentioned that they’re slowly integrating indie games into their booths and their shows at GDC, PAX and other venues for people to see, and they’re slowly placing emphasis on the WiiU’s capability of assisting indie developers get their games out there.
Obviously the indie games will be available through the Nintendo eShop and Nintendo also mentioned they are going to be promoting indie games anywhere and everywhere. The eShop is also the same on the Nintendo 3DS/3DS XL.
Nintendo has a website dedicated to indie games here, as well as having indie titles on the 3DS and WiiU. That website is going to be blowing up with information about indie games and indie titles in the coming months I’d reckon.
If you’re interested in purchasing a WiiU, which is great fun for one person or for the whole family, take a gander:
